Vice President

Discussions are now begriming on who will be the vice president to go along with our presidential hopefuls Obama, Clinton or McCain.

The Vice President spot has very limited powers. Basically they get to become president, if something goes badly awry, and also decide split votes in the senate.

Summary - great title - no responsibility. If it wasn't for all the lobby and corporate cash flowing around then I am sure there would be few candidates.

Harry Truman remarked that the job of the vice president is to "go to weddings and funerals."

John Adams, the first vice president, described it as "the most insignificant office that ever the invention of man contrived or his imagination conceived."

Daniel Webster (14th/19th Secretary of State) was once offered the Vice President spot and responded "I do not intend to be buried until I am dead."

My favorite line was from Vice President John Nance Garner who famously described the office as "not worth a pitcher of warm piss". I hope that our cocktail tastes better than that. Once again we set our sights high.
